On April 22nd 2011 Ovìt decided to partecipate in Earth Day. The 2011 edition had this beautiful theme: to collect one billion “green actions”. Ovit set up a day without PHOTOCOPIES, using practical activities or reusing old lessons.
But it didn’t end there: Ovìt created some green rules to be applied daily. These rules not only let us help the planet but, reducing waste, let us keep the prices lower.

  • No unnecessary prints: lessons, handouts and exercises are printed on both sides, preferably on recycled paper, and stored for a new lesson, if not used immediately.
  • Bike: we recommend and strongly support the use of the bike. Those of us who don’t live too far away use a bike every day as much as we try to use public transport instead of the car.
  • Critical consumption: we only use products that are not tested on animals and products from ethical companies.
  • Turn off that light! We only use light bulbs and turn on the light only if really necessary (remember, do not let anything stand by!)
  • Recycling program: we divide our waste daily.
  • Public Water: we strongly suggest our students to consume tap water. It’s good, it’s always fresh, it’s free, and does not produce 5 plastic bags a week.
  • Open Source: we believe in free software and knowledge sharing. Our website, our lessons, our documents and leaflets have been created with open source programs.
  • Long life to things! We do not want to give our items a premature death. We try to reuse any small stationery items, such as cards or clasps, and do constant maintenance on the electronics so we do not have to throw things away the first time. We use waste paper and cardboard boxes to do craft activities (expecially in kids’ lesson).
